“A young person who is healthy can dream. A young person who is confident can plan. And a young person who is empowered can earn.”
For 24-year-old Neema, the dream is simple: to build a secure future for herself and her young child.
Financial hardship forced her to leave school before completing her education. Although she had ambition and determination, she lacked the skills, resources and opportunities needed to earn a sustainable income.
Her experience reflects the reality facing many young people in Kenya. Their potential is not the problem access to opportunity is.
At PS Kenya, we know that economic independence begins with more than employment. Young people also need good health, confidence and the ability to make informed decisions about their lives. That is why the WellBeing Youth Enterprise Movement integrates health, mental wellbeing and economic empowerment.
Neema joined the WellBeing Movement to learn tailoring. Today, she is developing textile and garment-making skills alongside entrepreneurship, financial literacy and digital capabilities. She is learning how to cost products, manage money, understand customers and use digital tools to reach markets.
Through life-skills, sexual and reproductive health and mental-wellbeing sessions, she is also gaining the knowledge and confidence to navigate decisions that will shape her future.
For Neema, every new skill is a step towards independence—and towards the future she wants for her child.
Her journey is still unfolding. She has not yet completed her training, but she can now see a clearer path towards earning an income and building a life defined by possibility rather than uncertainty.
Neema is one of 30 young people currently participating in the Movement. Their journeys demonstrate that skills alone are not enough. Young people also need confidence, good health, practical experience and connections to apprenticeships, jobs, customers and markets.
With your support, we can create this pathway for many more young people.
Because every young person deserves more than the ability to dream. They deserve the opportunity to turn that dream into a sustainable future.
