“Our young people do not simply dream of getting by. They dream of building successful businesses, creating jobs, and opening doors for others.”
When the first cohort joined the WellBeing Youth Enterprise Movement, we asked them to do something simple, yet powerful.
Before learning a new skill.
Before sitting behind a sewing machine.
Before creating their first garment.
We asked them to write down their dreams.
What emerged was a powerful reminder that young people do not lack ambition. They often lack opportunity.
Some dreamed of financial independence and the dignity of supporting their families. Others envisioned building successful fashion brands, supplying schools and businesses with quality products, creating jobs, and using their success to uplift other young people in their communities.
Their dreams were bold. Their aspirations were clear.
Today, those dreams are captured on vision boards, in notebooks, and in the hearts of 30 determined young people. With the right investment, they can become thriving enterprises, sustainable livelihoods, and stories of transformation.
Through the WellBeing Youth Enterprise Movement, participants are developing practical skills in tailoring and garment production while building entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and digital skills that can help them grow successful enterprises. They also receive life skills training, mental wellbeing support, and sexual and reproductive health education, helping them build the confidence, resilience, and decision-making skills needed to shape their futures.
But ambition alone is not enough.
Young entrepreneurs need access to equipment, mentorship, practical experience, startup resources, and someone willing to believe in their potential. They need opportunities to turn ideas into action and dreams into reality.
Behind every goal on those vision boards is a young person determined to change the direction of their life. A daughter who wants to support her family. A young parent striving to provide for a child. A future entrepreneur who hopes to create jobs and inspire others.
Without opportunity, these dreams may remain words on paper.
With support, a vision board can become a business plan.
A sewing machine can become a source of income.
A first customer can become the beginning of a thriving enterprise.
And a young person who once depended on opportunity can become someone who creates it for others.
