Biography

Ciru is an accomplished business leader with close to thirty years’ experience in the consumer goods, pharmaceutical and contract logistics sectors. She has extensive experience leading businesses across diverse markets in Sub-Saharan Africa often characterized by complex trading environments and difficult economic climates. In the last decade she has served as the Managing Director of
Nestle East Africa, the General Manager of GSK’s Consumer Healthcare business in Eastern Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands and the General Manager of African Nutrition Ventures, a social enterprise initiative by GSK. More recently, she held the position of Managing Director at Imperial Managed Solutions, a DP World Company.

Her general management capabilities include P&L management, strategy formulation, operations planning and delivery, financial planning, talent development, productivity management and stakeholder relations. As a commercial expert she has strong route-to-market development and marketing management skills. Ciru has a track record of delivering strong business results, turning around under-performing businesses, building high performing teams and  transforming organizational culture.

Ciru is a passionate advocate of women’s empowerment and as a female leader has championed various initiatives to support and elevate women in the workplace. An enthusiastic promoter of African talent, she often volunteers her time to mentor young professionals.

Ciru currently sits on the board of Unga Group PLC as a non-executive director and is a member of the Investments & Operations and Audit & Risk Committees. She previously served on the boards of Nestle Kenya Limited, GSK Kenya Limited and Imperial Managed Solutions (a DP World company) as an executive director and Nairobi Java House in a non-executive capacity. She represented Nestle on
the Kenya Association of Manufacturers’ Multinational CEO Caucus. She holds a Master of Business Administration degree from USIU-Africa and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nairobi.
